"Practical Magic:

Connecting Through Fiber"

Artist Statement

I have been connected to fiber arts for as long as I can remember, having learned early lace knitting from my grandmother in New Orleans at the age of 6 or 7….

I have always been fascinated that humans are the only creatures to intentionally clothe themselves…in today’s world the vast majority of our garments are either knit or woven and it is in those 2 mediums, along with quilt-making and garment construction, that I have spent over 35 years exploring the seemingly unlimited possibilities of color combinations, textural nuances and more. I love the sensual flow of fabrics created form silk, tencel, rayon, soy, bamboo and fine merino wools and strive to bring unexpected patterning in strong colorways to simple useful items.

Each piece I weave is one of a kind…I never repeat the exact same

pattern and color combinations.

My passion for beautiful textiles has inspired me to try to bring appreciation of this uniquely human legacy to others through founding and participating in art events throughout Colorado for almost 20 years as well as conducting teaching opportunities for all ages as often as possible.

My fiberwork has been juried into numerous shows including the Colorado Woodworkers and Fiber Show in Colorado Springs, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, and the InterMountain Weavers Conference in Durango to name just a few, winning numerous awards in several of them. I am one of the original 8 founding artists of the Annual Salida ArtWalk, now in its 18th year, originator of the 2001-2002 Artists Studio Tour Series in Salida and founding president of the Central Colorado FiberArts Guild.

This past year has found me re-exploring the nuances of knitting, felting and manipulating wet fibers like clay. The use of mobius techniques and application of Fibonacci sequencing has resulted in some fun creations on the loom and with the needles !

The world of fiberart is as limitless as our imaginations and I look forward to many more years of exploring this medium and passing the results along to others !

Feel free to contact me about custom pieces in colorways of your choice and to learn more about hand weaving. ( I have several looms available for teaching )
