Shumei International Institute, in collaboration with the Hazlerig Music House, will host Steve Storm at 7 P.M. on Friday, December 4th.
Steve Storm takes you on a musical journey with eloquently complex arrangements that not only tell his story, they'll touch your soul. Stories come from his new CD “After Dark” which tells of the 'journey back' with beautiful melodies, harmony and rhythmic accompaniments to express that peaceful moment when the spirit lifts after trials have weighed you down. Storm uses open tunings on the steel string acoustic guitar to build his own lush arrangements of traditional Celtic aires, laments, jigs and reels, as well as a few originals.
The delicacy of Storm's intricate finger style guitar is stunning, leaving you moved by the depth of his heartfelt playing.
Steve Storm has been living in Colorado since 1983, all the while playing guitar in various groups or alone, onstage and off. Steve was trained at a young age in voice, French horn, and classical music. For the last several years he has focused on Celtic music, starting with a five-piece band, Bread in a Bottle, then playing in a duo with Celtic fiddler, Ann Federowicz. Steve now finds himself coming out with his solo Celtic finger style guitar project "After Dark". The recordings on After Dark make up his first official CD, produced with the help of friends. Despite a lifetime of music Steve admits, “I always struggled finding a style of playing any kind of music that I could call my own. When I learn a Celtic tune I always start with the sheet music, almost always, and build chords or a finger style arrangement around that.” But in After Dark, the tracks represent a group of songs that Steve feels he can call his own, and he says of that, “I’m recognizing a style. And I’m likin’ it! I hope you do too!”
Tickets for the concert are a suggested $10 donation, and all proceeds benefit the artist directly. Seating is limited and are first come first serve. Please call 719/256-5284 for more information.
