Andy Skellenger ventures into new territory at Shumei, Sunday July 31st at 7pm Shumei is happy to host Andy Skellenger July 31st at 7pm for solo performance. Andy is a multi-percussionist specializing in the rare art of Tabla Lahara, or solo tabla performance. He also plays the Malian harp called the Kora, cajon, udu, and many other instruments. In this exciting solo performance, Andy is venturing into new territory. Using a live looping pedal and all the sounds at his disposal, Andy will create a layered soundscape. Rich grooves will serve as backdrop for the intricate rhythmic movements of Tabla Lahara Music and melodic explorations with the Kora. He will also give a short talk on the significance, past and present, of tabla, rhythm, music, and mysticism.
