MARIKA POPOVITS ART EXHIBITION AT SHUMEI JUNE 1-JUNE 30
Marika Popovits will be showing a selection of her recent work, entitled “Light, Sound, Vibration”, during the month of June in the art gallery of Shumei International Instiutute. A reception, with an introductory talk on the process and evolution of these paintings, will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 14, from 3-5 PM.
The large-formatted paintings, on canvas and board, were all done in the Renaissance glaze technique (mixed oil and egg tempera). They follow a trajectory of transpersonal states of consciousness, as investigated and spontaneously manifested by the eyes of their perceiver – its action in the undivided moment. They start with “Light” as the presence of consciousness in matter, and continue through increasingly subtler levels of creation, “Sound” and “Vibration” becoming the last and final expressions in the series.
A book is presently in preparation, containing the entire progression of the cycle from 1999 – 2008; and a preliminary version in the form of a catalogue will be available during the exhibition.
Marika has been a resident Crestone-Baca since 1996, with frequent absences to Italy where she has had a home for over 30 years. She is a member of the Sri Aurobindo Learning Center, and a long-time visitor to Auroville, India. Her work has been shown internationally and is in many public and private collections.
This is the first time in a number of years that she will have shown her work publicly in Crestone. The introductory talk by Marika will be a unique presentation of the long and complex journey depicted in the cycle of more than 30 paintings, of which only a few are currently exhibited.
Barbara Marx-Hubbard, who wrote the foreword to the book, is quoted in the following passage:
“… Marika’s work helps to set the new field in motion, and brings to humanity inspiration and joy as we pass through this great period of transformation. She is an Evolutionary Artist for the Quantum Transformation.”
The community is warmly invited to the reception on June 14th, and to view and to meditate on the paintings daily from 9-5PM throughout the month of June.
