This event is free to the public

Eri Hayashi’s show will be on display at the Shumei Gallery in Crestone for the months of January and February 2012. Eri will be speaking on Sunday January 8th starting a 3pm. A reception will follow.

Born and raised in Japan, Eri Hayashi’s work is whimsical as well as beautiful. Eri creates Chigiri-Eh or Collage of Finger-torn Colored Papers. In her words: “I “paint” and “draw” with finger-torn colored papers. My fingers are the brushes. Colored papers are my medium. Out of torn-papers emerge faces, animals, flowers, and anything and everything I want. There is no rule, there is no limitation. I don’t even do rough sketches. Piece by piece, I arrange torn papers until they form what I imagined. I can rearrange pieces as much as I want. I feel so free when I am working with papers. My imagination takes its wings and I am filled with pure joy while I create.”

Come meet Eri Hayashi, who now lives in Germany, and learn more about her and her art on Sunday January 8th starting at 3pm to 5pm. This event is free to the public, please visit www.shumeicrestone.org or call 256-5284 for more information.
