The eclectic and eccentric gypsy quartet Fishtank Ensemble will be in Crestone at Shumei International on Thursday, August 12th at 7pm. The dynamic quartet take their roots both from their own varied musical and national backgrounds, as well as from their adventures.
The singer Ursula sang opera on the streets of Italy until she found a love of gypsy music, while their French violinist traveled around Europe in a handmade mule-drawn caravan for ten years. The Serbian bass player has spent time playing with gypsies as well as some of the rock and roll's legends, and the guitarist is a master of flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar who honed his craft in the gypsy caves of Granada, Spain.
Vocalist Ursula Knudson, violinist Fabrice Martinez, guitarist Doug "Douje" Smolens, and bassist Djordje Stijepovic - share a vibrant passion for unbridled creativity and music with Rockabilly flair. The quartet with a quirky name blazes new musical trails on their new album; Woman In Sin released earlier this year.
Fishtank Ensemble preformed at the Crestone Music Festival several years ago and will travel from Los Angeles to perform in our small mountain town again. Tickets for this concert are $10 at the door and all proceeds benefit the artists directly.
