Concert - Melissa Crabtree, Friday November 18th, 7pm Whether guiding a raft through the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River, or writing songs and singing about the majesty of the American West, Melissa Crabtree’s heartfelt love for the natural world transports her listeners to the wild places she knows best. Come enjoy her poignant stories in a distinctly husky alto, with a pleasingly twangy guitar at Shumei International in Crestone on November 18th at 7pm. Art Symposium- James Joseph Roderick: Art Symposium Sun. July 17th, starting at 3pm to 5pm. James has lived in Crestone for fifteen years and experiences a deep connection to this valley. He felt drawn to live here in the majestic mountains he feels parallel the power of the ocean. His multi media works will be on display for the month of July.
     
Concert - Andy Skellenger, Sunday July 31st, 7pm Andy is venturing into new territory. Using a live looping pedal and all the sounds at his disposal, Andy will create a layered soundscape. Rich grooves will serve as backdrop for the intricate rhythmic movements of Tabla Lahara Music and melodic explorations with the Kora. He will also give a short talk on the significance, past and present, of tabla, rhythm, music, and mysticism.

Art Symposium- David Woodward: Art Symposium Sun. March 20th, starting at 3pm to 5pm. Exploring two-dimensional still images, David’s images are both large and small scale. His landscapes of the San Luis Valley photographically express not only space but also a sense of time by expressing motion, life, death, decay, or geological processes like the movement of sand dunes.
     
Concert - Michael Garfield will perform at Shumei in Crestone March 25th at 7pm with valley musician Andy Skellenger. $10 suggested donation at the door. Boulder musician Michael Garfield is on a mission to move you. With his passionate voice, twirling acrobatics over a dazzling array of intricate finger style patterns, Michael's sets turn on a dime between
instrumental etudes, heart-spearing ballads, and hypnotic acoustic-electronic loopscapes...that pull audiences deeper. And Crestone local favorite Andy Skellenger joins Michael on this night.

Concert - Willson and McKee - January 14th, 7pm. $10 suggested donation at the door. Collecting experiences, stories and humor from 20 years of touring together, this pair have fine tuned their stage performances to be anything but predictable, traditional, or expected.
     
Art Symposium- Kaia Dercum: Art Symposium Sun. January 16th, starting at 3pm to 5pm. As an artist, Kaia is continually striving to make a lasting record of a fleeting state of mind. She employs concrete tools; metallic paint, complimentary colors, abstraction of elements, to try to capture a feeling evoked by the natural world.
     
"StoryVille"- This first production of "the Company of Players" will feature talented writers who have been working on their dramatic and comic skills. The players range from senior citizens to a high school student. Saturday January 22, 2011 at 7:00 PM and Sunday January 23, 2011 at 3:00 PM. A Suggested Donation of $10.00 and $6.00 seniors and students are encouraged and will benefit the members of the cast and the cost of the production.

Concert - Steve Storm Celtic Guitar - December 3rd, 7pm. $10 suggested donation at the door. Steve Storm will perform at Shumei as part of the opening of the Crestone Artist Studio Tour Weekend. His finger style guitar ranges from Celtic style traditional ballads to original composures.
   
Art Symposium- Yoshie Tokutake: Art Symposium Sat. December 11th, starting at 3pm to 5pm. Yoshie Tokutake uses traditional Japanese clothing and textiles to create fabric pieces she hopes will preserve traditions as a reflection of cultural life to be handed down to the next generation. It is a rare treat to have an international artists traveling so far for the opportunity to share with the Crestone community their inspirations. Translation will be available.

Concert - Singer/Songwriters Eli Dokson and Tedd Brumm share night of Original Modern Folk on Friday October 22nd at 7pm at Shumei International Institute in Crestone at 7pm. Ticket price is a$10 suggested donation at the door and all proceeds benefit the artists. Good friends for years, Eli and Tedd have recently begun collaborating, composing, singing and playing together. At this upcoming concert you can see them playing both together and separately -- songwriters in the round -- presenting original songs, which span a variety of styles and themes.
     
Art Symposium - Tia Smilack, Sun. October 24th, starting at 3 to 5 pm Tia Smilack’s paintings will be on display the month of October at the Shumei Gallery in Crestone. Tia works in representation and abstract imagery, with Surrealist influences. Influenced by travels both nationally and internationally, she uses satire to highlight the religious, environmental, and political disparities in today's world.

Concert - Electric cellist and vocalist, Jami Sieber, with artist and author Colleen Kelley, Friday September 17th at 7pm. Ticket price is $10 at the door and all proceeds benefit the artists. Jami and Collen's intention is to communicate to as wide an audience as possible about the extraordinary nature of the Elephants of Asia. Crestone will now have the opportunity to experience the beauty of Jami’s music, Colleen’s poetry and their remarkable experiences with the elephants at a multimedia concert September 17th.

Concert - Chuck Pyle, the Zen Cowboy, Friday August 27th at 7pm. Ticket price is $10 at the door and all proceeds benefit the artists A nimble guitarist, critics say his sense of rhythm is more like a fine classical, or jazz, his songwriting sophisticated yet full of uncluttered space. Since writing the theme-song for a PBS series called Spirit of Colorado, he's attained local fame, and even sings for the opening session of the Colorado State Legislature.
     
Art Symposium - Logan Wannamaker, Sun. August 22nd, starting at 3 to 5 pm Logan is the director of Taos Clay, a community studio offering classes, workshops and residencies. His gallery showcases wood-fired, charcoal, salt, soda and saggar fired ceramics. His work is both functional and decorative and embodies the colors of the Southwest using regional materials.
     
Concert - Fishtank Ensemble Thursday August 12th at 7pm. Ticket price is $10 at the door and all proceeds benefit the artists This dynamic quartet take their roots both from their own varied musical and national backgrounds, as well as from their adventures. Please also note that should weather and insects permit; we might be in the outdoor amphitheater. However, a comfortable indoor option is available as well.

Harris leads the "Greg Harris Vibe Quintet," and is a member of Bluegrass legend Pete Wernick's Flexigrass, hip-hop/jazz/soul group Future Jazz Project, 9th & Lincoln Orchestra, and SuperCollider. Greg has released 5 albums- Greg Harris Vibe Quintet "Open Space," "Frames Live," Prospector "Memory of Pilots" featuring trumpeter Ron Miles, and "World Citizen" with West African master xylophonist Aaron Bebe Sukura. The Greg Harris Vibe Quintet’s new album ‘Glass Gold’ was recently released on Dazzle Records.
     
Art Symposium - Peter Di Gesu- Sun. July 18th, starting at 3 to 5 pm Di Gesu’s paintings illustrate his world of travel and exploration. With subtle hue changes, immense landscapes stretch far into the canvas and draw you into a world where the land is vast and inviting. Come meet Peter Di Gesu and learn more about his creative process. Following his talk will be a reception, which will take place in the gallery on the north end of the office building. Tea Ceremony Class Tue. June 8th starting at 4pm going til 5pm Experience the gentle art of tea at Shumei International. The second in the series, the Japanese tea ceremony is a cultural activity involving the preparation, appreciation and presentation of green tea. Take a quiet moment to enjoy the subtle beauty in the details as we explore the intricacies of hosting tea. The cost of this event is a donation of your choice at the Shumei gallery. Beginner Taiko workshop at Shumei International on Wed. June 2nd 6:30pm Taiko Master Koji Nakamura will teach the first course, however the continuation of classes will be determined by interest. Our very own Richard Reed will be playing a dazzling array of finger picking acoustic blues guitar favorites. All proceeds benefit the artist directly, so come out and support a neighbor while enjoying live music in your own backyard! More details on this event will be posted as the concert date nears.
     
Art Symposium - "Hot Metal: An Exhibition on Women's Work"- January 17th, 3- 5pm “Hot Metal: an Exhibition of Women's Work.”The exhibition features the art of emerging female artists from the San Luis Valley. Tiffany L. Lee, Alicia Hess, and Caitlin Whitten use their artwork as a way to communicate what is important to them both as artists and as women. The work in this show is not only a manifestation of their perspective on the world, but also of the physical labor of the women as artists. The artists will speak about their creative and foundry processes and be available for questions during the reception. This event is free to the public.
