Electric cellist and vocalist, Jami Sieber, will be at Shumei in Crestone with artist and author
Colleen Kelley Friday September 17th at 7pm. A pioneer of the electric cello, Jamie creates an
orchestra of sound employing electronics and looping techniques. Her music goes from the
deepest stillness to ecstatic pulsing rhythms and melodies.

In 2001, Jami had the opportunity to play her electric cello with elephants in Lampang, Thailand
at the Thai Elephant Conservation Center. There at the Conservation Center, a group of
elephants play instruments that were built specifically for them. It was there that Jamie entered
into a remarkable dialogue through music with these animals. She says, “I have experienced the
power of music as an international language, but through this exceptional encounter, it became
an interspecies language.”“Elephant Orchestra” is intended to bring attention to the animal’s
intelligence and their plight.
In performance artist and author Colleen Kelley, who also traveled to
Thailand to visit the elephants, will join Jami. Their intention is to continue to communicate to as
wide an audience as possible about the extraordinary nature of the Elephants of Asia.
Crestone will now have the opportunity to experience the beauty of Jami’s music, Colleen’s
poetry and their remarkable experiences with the elephants at a multimedia concert on Friday
September 17 at 7 pm at the Shumei International Institute in Crestone. Tickets are $10 at the
door, first come first seated and all proceeds benefit the artist. For more information please
