Jennifer and "New Beginnings"

My intent as a painter is not simply to render a sunrise, nor to depict my reaction to it, but to penetrate its very nature – to look behind what we are normally content in seeing and try to experience something of the spiritual force that creates it. This is why I paint. My main medium is watercolor, although I experiment with other materials. It is a layering of colors from light to dark, which gives the art ‘life-filled radiance’. As the light penetrates through surfaces of colors, they begin to breathe and come alive. The works that I am exhibiting at Shumei are ‘threshold’ paintings, which I will explain during my presentation. The first part of my presentation will be about color.

"Orange Dance", Watercolor

I will give a picture of Goethe’s color theory and Rudolf Steiner’s color indications. We will also explore the inner gesture of the colors. For example, yellow expands. One can sense that blue has a dynamic, an inner movement different from yellow etc. How would the inner dynamic of each color be expressed visually and through movement? The slide presentation for the second part of my presentation will be a variety of paintings from the beginning of my artistic path until now.

"Sun", Mixed Medium

In painting, the color is explored through compositional balance that changes as one places the colors on paper. A healing process can take place. As the color deepens, the soul is enriched & nourished. Where is the artistic? Through the unfolding of the color composition, the artist becomes a midwife to the spirit of the painting struggling to incarnate into physical form. When the birth is successful, then the magic is palpable as the invisible joins with the visible. The work is alive, ensouled. Please come and see these paintings and share in my presentation of one artist’s ongoing quest to manifest the Artistic in life.
