Textile artist Josefina Gordh featured artist in June at Shumei International;
Symposium June 12th
Josefina Gordh’s textile work will be on display at the Shumei Gallery in Crestone for the month of June. Josefina will be speaking on Sunday June 12th starting a 3pm. A reception will follow.
Josefina has been in Crestone for the last year visiting from her native Sweden where she creates textile art in silk and velvet.She will show large silk wallhangings and guilded velvets. The white fabric is dyed by hand, then printed with woodblocks that she cuts out from her own drawings. The velvet is printed with gold, copper, and silver pigments and the images of plants,birds and animals shimmer in light and movement.
Josefina draws her inspiration from nature, mythology and from the various cultures where she has lived and worked: From traditional art and zen studies in Japan to the beauty and peace of the Crestone landscape. She works with public commissions, interior decoration and theatre. She exhibit regularly and has an international clientele including celebrities and royal families and is now showing at Shumei through the month of June.
