The Shumei International Institute is proud to celebrate its 8th anniversary as a part of the Crestone community on May 22nd and 23rd of 2010. In preparation for this event we have developed this webpage and hope it will help you plan for an incredible weekend. We invite you to join in celebrating with us, and hope that this information will help you make the most out of your experience with us here in Crestone. On this site you will find lodging information, as well as directions, climate, and attractions in the area. Please check back as we will be continually adding content as the 2 day anniversary program develops. Shumei International Institute (SII) is dedicated to promoting spiritual growth through interfaith activities, the practice of Natural Agriculture, and the sponsorship of cultural and fine art events. Although this anniversary celebrates the Crestone Center facility, it also celebrates the vital community residing here in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Colorado. Shumei was drawn to this location by its natural beauty and spiritual energy. The Crestone Center represents the element of earth for the and is the third of three sacred sites for the organization worldwide. Many spiritual and religious groups from throughout the world also have felt the power of these mountains and have built stupas, ashrams, monasteries, and retreat centers. It has been Shumei’s desire to become an active participant in this community. Part of this participation has been hosting our annual anniversary, where religious and spiritual communities come together to discuss world citizenship and our own journeys towards peace. Through song, dance, discussion, and lecture we can learn more about our common goals through celebrating our diversity. Our Saturday Interfaith Day will undergo a transformation this year (watch this webpage for more information). This is a relatively rare opportunity for people to meet with and hear from many of the religions, traditions and lineages who have a presence in Crestone at one time and in one place. We hope that you will mark your calendars and join us for a fun, festive weekend of activities. All are welcome.
