Shumei presents the work of Steve Storm

Local guitar player Steve Storm will be performing solo at the Shumei Gallery, Sunday April 20th from 3-5pm.

“I was thinking of playing a range of songs, from things I learned early up to now, taking time to explain that evolution. I finger-pick the guitar. I like to use alternative tunings with the guitar so it might be fun to show how that’s done. I probably use five or six different ways of tuning the guitar [steel string acoustic guitars] right now. I suppose it comes from learning things in the early days like Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Jorme Kaukonen and Bruce Cockburn-- tunes that are in often really strange tunings. I could hear it, but it would take a certain amount of time before kind of ‘downloading’ to the fret-board. That process might take a few minutes, or as in a song or two, as many as ten years! That’s what I did early, and some still but I’ve been learning Celtic music lately and coming up with original versions of tradition songs, so I’ll play some of that too. I like playing songs that are beautiful. I like to play slow and heart-felt the most, I’m looking forward to playing at Shumei. Oh yeah, I have a surprise friend or two showing up too hopefully, cross your fingers.”

The concert is free, the Gallery is located at Shumei, come in through the front gate and it’s part of the first building to your right. Light refreshments will be served. For info call 256-5284. Steve Storm can be reached at 256-5215.
